The Founder, Seed Sower Ministry International Reverend Ozumba Nicodemus has called on Religious leaders to preach peace and unity.
He made the call in an address he delivered at the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Secretariat Yola against the backdrop of this year’s International Day of Peace coinciding with the fifteen years anniversary of the Ministry.
The founder who identified injustice and intolerance as factors militating against the peaceful coexistence of the people tasked leaders particularly to make it right.
Reverend Nicodemus who emphasized on the need for collective effort towards peace building by all urged stakeholders in all sectors to champion the course of Justice and fairness as a panacea to national unity.
The founder who charged Nigerians to guard against hate speech observed that inciting comments and misguided utterances cause disaffection among the people hence the need to desist.
Also speaking, the Guest Speaker at the event, Reverend Mrs. Anna Kuster of the German Speaking Congregation in Nigeria said Christianity and Islam both preach peace and admonished the adherents to peacefully coexist.
Reverend Kuster who identified commitment to the course of justice and equity as a precondition for national development and unity counselled leaders to always fashion inclusiveness in their leading.
Corroborating, the representative of the Muslim Council in the state who stood in for the Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Gambo Jika, Doctor Muktar Hassan cautioned against all form of divisive and discriminatory tendencies by political and religious leaders which according to him tear Nigerians apart.
Gambo Jika who identified the unity of the two major religions of Islam and Christianity as critical to the national growth and development urged those at the helm of affairs to give peace chance by eschewing bitterness so as to guarantee progress.
Other speakers at the event include State Coordinator of Christian Youths Association of Nigeria, CYAN, Mr. Godwin Joseph, Match Commissioner at the peace tournament organized by the Seed Sower, Barrister Azura represented by his wife Mrs. Edna Azura and Mr. Kuster from Germany among others.
While lamenting the fundamentalist and extremist tendencies of some Nigerians that created wide gap between adherents of the two religions, the speakers underscored the importance of oneness as well as stressed the need to respect each other’s culture, belief and tradition.
The Ministry earlier staged peaceful rally from Target-junction through Bekaji round about and finally to the CAN Secretariat, venue of the event.
High point of the event was presentation of trophy to the excelling team who played earlier at the peace football tournament.
They include Viniklang Football Club which came first, B-Street Boys Football Club second and Jiggys Football Club clinched the third place.
