The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev Stephen Dami Mamza has disclosed plans to annually award scholarship to brilliant children of catechists in a bid to give them a bright future

He revealed this during the investiture and commissioning of 25 catechists at the Catechetical Training Center, Muchalla Gombi.

25 male youths drawn from the Catholic diocese of Yola 2years ago embarked on the journey of acquiring western and religious knowledge at the Catechetical Training Center.

The church saw the need to also train their wives in skills as a means of supporting their means of livelihood.

After a successful completion of the training, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza while commissioning the catechists charged them to take up the call of Christ for evangelism urging them to be just, fair and faithful to their calling.

The cleric however reminded the catechists that it will not always be smooth but with prayer and respect to the priest who is their superior they will succeed.

Bishop Mamza enjoined their wives to be supportive to their spouses, take care of the home, utilise the source of income given to them and ensure their children continue with their studies promising to give 3 best children of catechists scholarship annually.

Earlier Director of the Catechetical Training Center, Rev Fr Simon Salama said catechesis is an essential tool for evangelization more than ever before, the church has always considered them as a primary task.

He lauded the commitment of the Diocese under the stewardship of Bishop SDM for the noble course and the catechises for dedicating themselves throughout the 2years programme.

The Diocese in collaboration with Missio Germany provided each of the 25 families with a motorcycle to ease their movements and a sewing machine for the women to use as a means of business.
