Twelve years after its last convocation, the Adamawa State University, (ADSU) Mubi has recorded another milestone as it has finally held its 3rd to 15th convocation ceremony with 92 students graduating with first class honour degrees.
During the event that held at the convocation square of the university Saturday, 11,625 deserving graduands were awarded higher degrees which include 10,535 undergraduates, and 1,090 postgraduates.
In his address at the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri gave the five best graduating students automatic employment at the Adamawa State University and overseas scholarship to further their education.
The Governor who is the visitor of the university congratulated the graduands for attaining the feat having toiled to complete their various courses and certified to be the recipients of their respective degrees and certificates.
He commended the Students, Staff and Management of the University for standing firm in spite of the challenging security situation, and remaining resolute in choosing Mubi to be their destination for, research, learning and a hatchery of leaders of the next generation.
He announced an Annual research Grant of twenty five million naira into the dedicated interest earning Account of the University which will be in the Annual Budget of the State as specific line for the next four years to be conferred
on qualified persons.
Fintiri said his administration has constructed new lecture theatres and internal roads in the main Campus and is constructing a hostel complex at the Sahuda Road Campus in addition to internal roads, walkways and potable water and other amenities .
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of (ADSU) Alhaji Auwal Tukur said the institution was established in two thousand and two making it the first state university in north east and the second state university established in northern Nigeria after that of Benue.
He revealed that the visitor, Governor Fintiri upon his assumption into office has insisted that the university should hold the convocation and provided the required leadership and resources for the ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University Professor Kaltapwa George Farauta disclosed that the university is faced with myriads of challenges that include among others power, internet connectivity and human resources.
She said the university has ninety eight percent accreditation for all undergraduate and programmes, secured approval from National University’s Commission (NUC) for 2 new faculties, 13 departments and 7 programmes.
In a remark after his installation, the Chancellor of the ADSU Alhaji Muhammad Seyoji Ahmed who is the Emir of Pindiga acknowledged that the institution has the enviable reputation of being the first state university in the northeast.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of himself and the Chancellor of ADSU who is the Emir of Pindiga, Alhaji Muhammad Seyoji Ahmed, Former Governor Boni Haruna lauded Governor Umaru Fintiri for repositioning the university within shortest possible time.
